Dr. Miles has provided consultations, reports, and expert testimony to both plaintiffs and defendants in litigated civil and criminal matters. He has qualified as expert in state and federal courts to provide legally relevant psychiatric, medical, and psychopharmacological opinions. Cases have included issues of criminal responsibility, sanity, competency to stand trial, effects of drug ingestion and withdrawal, testamentary capacity, psychiatric standards of practice, prescription practices, impairment, harassment, discrimination, disability, emotional distress, and need for treatment.

Throughout his career, Dr. Miles has been active in organized psychiatry. He has served on various committees, including the Executive Committee, of the Southern California Psychiatric Society. He has also been actively involved in the governance of the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute, and Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Miles is an active teacher. He is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine. He is also on the faculty of the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute.
